Carlton Elwood Long, 87, of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Avante at Harrisonburg.

He was born in Dayton, VA on October 6, 1922, and was a son of the late Floyd B. and Pauline (Curry) Long.

He was a retired foreman from Firestone Tire and Rubber (Synthetic Plant) in Akron, OH, where he had lived as a child.

Carlton was a member of the Spring Creek Church of the Nazarene. He served in the U.S. Navy as a 2nd Class Petty Officer in WW II.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Mary and Helen Long, and brother Everette Long.

Carlton is survived by his one son Robert Long, one daughter Cheryl Kaderly and husband Rick.; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 4, 2010 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the Spring Creek Church of the Nazarene, with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM with Rev. Tony Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Briery Branch Brethren Church Cemetery.
