Obituary for Anna Mae Pope Will

Mrs. Anna Mae Pope Will (93) of Bridgewater, Virginia went to her Heavenly home on April 22, 2018. Anna’s philosophy of life was that we are here to help others as witnessed by her many friends and family who deeply respected her kindness and loving spirit. Her humor brought joy to all who knew her.

Mrs. Will was born October 20, 1924 in West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Hattie Moyer Pope and Fletcher L. Pope. The family moved to Bridgewater in 1930; the family acquired a large tract of land which was developed into the Pope subdivision.

She graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1941. She received a Commercial Certificate from Bridgewater College and taught at Timberville High School for six years. On September 5, 1944 she married Edwin E. Will, former Principal of Timberville High School and Superintendent of Schools in Bath and Brunswick Counties. He was Assistant Superintendent of the Hampton City Schools. He died June 14, 1996.

Surviving are two children, Sharon Will of Baltimore, Maryland, and David E. Will and wife Deborah Layman Will of Glen Allen, Virginia, and two grandsons, David Andrew Will and Brian Austin Will of Glen Allen.

Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Patricia Pope, of Port Orange, Florida; and a number of nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Pope Seller, and two brothers, Fletcher Pope, Jr. and Bruce Moyer Pope.

Mrs. Will was a member of Bridgewater Church of the Brethren, the Open Door Sunday School Class, the Character Builders Circle, and a former deacon of the church. She was a member of the Rockingham Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a former volunteer in the Cheery Corner and the Carousel Gift Shop. She was a member of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Retired Teachers Association.

She was a former President of the Lawrenceville Garden Club, President of the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Women of the Church, a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, a member of the Hot Springs Garden Club, Home Demonstration Club, and Bath County Red Cross Fund Drive.

The family wishes to thank the many kind and loving caregivers at the Bridgewater Retirement Community.
