Obituary for Dorothy "Dot" Minnick Payne

On Monday April 9, 2018, Dorothy “Dot” Minnick Payne peacefully left her earthly home for her heavenly one, with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She is now reunited with her heavenly Father and her devoted husband.

Dot was born on February 17, 1928 in Briery Branch, VA. She was the daughter of H.L. and Marvie (Gilmer) Minnick. She worked her entire life in the poultry industry, first at Swift and Co, for over 30 years before their closure and then for Holly Farms and Tysons, from which she retired. She enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables, word find books, and watching westerns and Family Feud on TV.

On July 3, 1957, after 12 years of courtship, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Hubert W. Payne, who preceded her in death on August 21, 2017. They had been together over 72 years at the time of his death.

Also preceding her in death are brothers, Johnny, Ray, Leo, David and Bill Minnick.

She leaves behind one daughter, Jeannie Crislip and husband, Jimmy, of Harrisonburg with whom she had made her home since Hubert’s passing. Also surviving are granddaughter, Terri Browning and a great-grandson, Zachary Browning, both of whom she loved dearly; brother, Jim Minnick and wife, Helen, of Briery Branch;sister, Violet Litten of Harrisonburg; three very special sisters-in-law, Thelma Huffman, Virginia Minnick, and Ruby Minnick; nieces and nephews also survive.

Per her request, her body will be cremated and there will be no formal services. Friends and family may call at Jeannie’s house anytime.

The family would like to thank the RMH hospice crew for the outstanding compassionate care they provided to Dot and Hubert, especially Angie, Jamie, and Collette. Special thanks also to Sandy, you were not just her sitter, but also her friend and to Chaplains Scott and Dave for being there to help our family during this very difficult journey.
