Obituary for Florence Elaine Evers

Florence Elaine Evers, 97, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

Florence was born in Harrisonburg on November 24, 1920, and was a daughter of the late Clara (Turner) and Louis Dove.

She was a member of Dayton Church of the Brethren Dayton. She and her husband owned and operated greenhouses in Montezuma. She worked at the Harrisonburg silk mill where she met her future husband, Atlee Grove Whitmer, who she married June 22, 1940, and preceded her in death on September 5, 1982.

On September 12, 1987, she was united in marriage to Ivan William Evers, who preceded her in death on January 14, 1994.

Florence is survived by three daughters, Gloria Whitmer Alger and husband David E., of Bridgewater, Elaine Whitmer Wightman, of Rockingham, and Linda Whitmer Jordan and husband Bill, of Mt. Crawford; a son, Gary G. Whitmer and wife Becky, of Broadway; sister-in-law, Doris Dove, of Harrisonburg; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters; four step-sons.

She is also preceded in death by twin brothers, Leo and Lawrence Dove; sister, Evelyn Whitmer; son-in-laws, Carroll Stroop, and Frank Wightman.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 5PM Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater. Burial will be private. The casket will be closed.
