Obituary for Hazel Rebecca Tutwiler

Hazel Rebecca Tutwiler, 103, of Harrisonburg, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at White Birch Estates in Harrisonburg

Hazel was born in Bridgewater on May 2, 1914, and was a daughter of the late Hannah Rebecca (Keyton) and Samuel Jones.

She retired from Rockingham County School where she served as the cafeteria manager for John Wayland Elementary. After retirment she went on to work for Evers Restaurant for many years.

On January 26, 1947, she was united in marriage to Charles N. Tutwiler, who preceded her in death.

Hazel is survived by two sons, Charles Tutwiler II and wife Pamyla, of Rockingham, and Paul Tutwiler and wife LaFerne, of Richmond; a daughter, Julia Wilkerson, of Staunton; three grandchildren, Amanda Dawn Tutwiler, Michael Wilkerson, and Laura Shifflett; three great-grandchildren and several special nieces.

She is also preceded in death by two sisters, and four brothers.

Special thanks to neighbors who were like family to her, White Birch staff and New Century Hospice.

A funeral service will be conducted 2PM Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, with Pastor W.L. (Sonny) Henkel officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Creek Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service.
