Obituary for Kenneth Gerald Munson

Kenneth Gerald Munson, Sr., 94, of Grottoes, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at his home surrounded by family.

Kenneth was born in Ticonderoga, NY, on November 26, 1922, and was a son of the late Edna M. (Johns) and Harry W. Munson.

He began his trucking career in 1940 in Albany, NY, and in 1941 he went to work for Keeshin Motor Express. In 1944 he was drafted by the US Army infantry motor pool, during WWII where he served as a Staff Sergeant and was discharged in 1946. In 1947 he drove for Eazor Express, left in 1957 as a traffic manager and started his career at Houff Transfer in Weyers Cave. He retired in 1987 and worked part-time at Crosby Trucking from 1993 until 1999. "This totals 56 years in the trucking business, I did about every job that there is in the motor freight field". He was a member of Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church in Grottoes where he served as an Elder.

On April 26, 1943, he was united in marriage to Opal G. (Hicks) Munson, who preceded him in death on September 14, 1993. On November 25, 1995, he was united in marriage to Virginia D.(Coleman) Munson, who preceded him in death on August 12, 2004.

Kenneth is survived by five daughters, Jodi L. Coppola (Sergio), of Bridgewater, Billie Jean Bushong (Carrol), of Dayton, Kimberly S. Munson, of Palmyra, Bobbie J. Munson, of Grottoes, and Tamara D. Kee (Chuck), of Harrisonburg; three sons, Kenneth "Bud" G. Munson, Jr. (Bonnie), of Waynesboro, Ronald "Butch" L. Munson (Barbara), of Grottoes, and Timothy P. Munson (Debbie), of Grottoes; two step-daughters, Teresa Ann Cantrell (Thomas), of Harrisonburg, and Bobbie Lou Humphreys (Greg), of White Post, VA; two step-sons, Timothy Medley (Connie), of Charleston, WV, and Bill Medley (Cathy), of Elkview; five half-sisters, four half-brothers, He is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one expected great-granddaughter, six great-great-grandchildren, and cousins, Robert and Barbara Hicks, of Grottoes.

He is also preceded in death by three half-brothers and two half-sisters.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes.

A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, September 11, 2017, at Mount Horeb Presbyterian Church in Grottoes, with Pastor Johnathan Ytterock officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
