Obituary for Luella Kay "Whiz" Black

Luella Kay "Whiz" Black, 70, of Dayton, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017.

Whiz was born in Rockingham County on June 9, 1947, and was a daughter of the late Mary (Crider) and Harry Lee Reese.

She was most recently a homemaker, she had previously worked as a bus driver for Rockingham County Schools, and at SanCar for a number of years. She was a member of Mount Bethel Church of the Brethren in Dayton, and had most recently attended Victory Fellowship Church.

On June 4, 1965, she was united in marriage to Don L. Black, who survives. They just celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Whiz is also survived by two daughters, Pennie Simmons and husband, Gary, of Dayton, and Donna Myers and husband, DJ, of Rockingham; a son, Will Black and girlfriend Heather Dean, of Dayton; a sister, Cathryn "Cat" Little, of Mt. Airy, MD; three brothers, James "Mitt" Reese and wife, Bonnie, of Dayton, Mervin "Gene" Reese, of Hinton, and William "Steamboat" Reese, of Dayton; brother-in-law, Cecil Mongold, of Bridgewater; sister-in-laws, Dillie Reese and Brenda Reese, both of Dayton; seven grandchildren, Trenton Simmons and fiancee Allie Herring, Megan Rhodes and husband, AJ, Ashley Huffman, Tanner Huffman, Anna Myers, Liam Black, Kamden Baughman; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Jenna Rhodes. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She is also preceded in death by an infant son; brother, Dave Reese; sister, Addie Mae Mongold; brother-in-law, Jim Little; sister-in-law, Reatha Reese; family dog, Jazz.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8PM Friday, December 8, 2017, at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater

Purple was Whiz' favorite color, feel free to wear purple to the service in her honor.

A Celebration of the New Life for Whiz will be conducted 11AM Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Victory Fellowship Church in Dayton, with Pastors W.L. "Sonny" Henkel and Mark Reese officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clover Hill Fire & Rescue, 2100 Clover Hill Rd, Dayton, VA 22821.
