Obituary for Nelson Earl Spitler

Nelson Earl Spitler, 70, of Harrisonburg, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at home.

Nelson was born in Harrisonburg on October 3, 1947, a son of the late Earl and Fannie (Yankey) Spitler.

He worked at Heritage Oaks Golf Course and was a member of The Salvation Army of Harrisonburg. He was also a lifetime member of the Bridgewater Fire Department and treasurer for the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary Lodge 13.

On October 25, 1987, he was united in marriage to Faye (Ward) Spitler, who survives.

Nelson is also survived by daughter, Tammi Privott and husband, Bob, of Mt. Sidney; son, Timmy Spitler and wife, Bea, of Harrisonburg; sisters, Betty Womack, of Atlanta, GA, Pat Shull and husband, J.C., of McGaheysville, and Gloria Heishman and husband, Bill, of Dayton; four grandchildren, Morgan Meadows (Trevor), Bridgette Spitler (Amanda), and Ryan Spitler; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Sager-Spitler, Robert Sager-Spitler, and Lucy Meadows; numerous special friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Jane Hill and grandson, Matt Privott.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday, July 27th at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday, July 28th at the funeral home, with Captain John Blevins officiating. Burial will be private.
