Obituary for Patricia Ann Thompson Bowman

Patricia Ann Thompson Bowman passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Bridgewater Home. Pat was born in Centerville on October 16, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Ferne Hunter Thompson.

Pat graduated from North River High School in 1958 and from the 2 year secretarial program at JMU.

On April 7, 1962 she married Galen G. Bowman, who passed away on March 17, 2005. She is survived by her two daughters: Gail B. Heiston and husband William , Lori B. Gravely and husband M. C. Four grandchildren: Michael Heiston and wife Brandi; Beth Heiston, Collin Gravely and wife Kristen; and Cade Gravely. She is also survived by great grandchildren: Bella Beach; Jaxon Gravely and Violet Heiston. She loved her family very much and is also survived by uncle Byron Morris, aunts Doris Hunter and Pat Hunter and her cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Thompson, uncle Bud Hunter, aunt Darlene Morris and uncle Rolland Hunter.

Pat enjoyed her career at the Pentagon, Reynolds Metals, and Merck. She also enjoyed working with her friends: Betty Driver, Dot Simmers and Joyce Craun in the remodeling and selling houses. She was active in her church, Summit Church of the Brethren, serving as clerk, women’s fellowship and a member of the Sunday school class. She served as chairwoman of the Horticulture Dept. at the Rockingham County Fair. In later years she enjoyed being a tour bus guide. She very much enjoyed her craft friends: Irene Cummings, Ruth Flick and Genny Terry.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.

A memorial service will be held at Summit Church of the Brethren on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 6:00 PM with Rev. Tim Craver and Rev. John Glick officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Summit Church of the Brethren, 314 Summit Church Rd., Bridgewater, VA 22812.
