Obituary for David Eller Flora

David Eller Flora was born in Franklin County, Virginia, December 31, 1921, the son of Reverend Samuel H. and Annie Eller Flora and died November 5, 2018.

He graduated from Bassett High School (VA), spent 2 ½ years in the Civilian Public Service during WWII and graduated from Bridgewater College in 1948. He and Mabel Catherine Driver Flora married September 17, 1948 and she predeceased him in 2014 having shared 66 years together.

Dave had a varied work life including teaching industrial arts, managing a camp/conference center and cabinetmaking. His interests and hobbies were equally diverse. He was an avid woodcarver crafting beautiful birds, ducks, and jewelry. Community service was important and found him as a Boy Scout leader, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Kiwanis and Ruritan Club member/officer and active in both the Westminster (MD) and Bridgewater (VA) Churches of the Brethren holding many positions.

Quiet and unassuming, living by his faith, Dave set an example that his family will cherish. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Surviving are four sons, David E. Flora, Jr. and wife, Jan; Dale D. Flora; Daniel M. Flora and wife, Pam and Stephen L. Flora. He is survived by seven grandchildren, Jeff Carter and wife, Kim, Krista Kist and husband, Ed, Ethan, Molly and Kayley Flora, Chad Flora and wife, Corinne and Lauren Flora. Five great grandchildren survive him, Anna, Grace and Julie Carter and Connor and Jacob Kist and a brother, Samuel Flora, and brothers in law, Allen and Charles Driver.

A memorial service will be held at the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren, Sunday, November 11, 2018, 3 p.m. The interment will be private.
