Obituary for Jimmie Edward Marshall

Jimmie Edward Marshall passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at the age of 84 at Willow Estates.
Jim was born January 26, 1935, delivered by Dr. Tanner, in Grottoes, Virginia. He was the son of the late William Henry Marshall and Ethel Pearl (Morris) Marshall Lawson.
Jim joined the U.S. Army and served in the 11th Airborne.
Jim married Joyce Ann (Via) Marshall on June 26, 1953. Joy was the love of his life and he often referred to her as “Jimmie’s Joy.”
Jim was a gypsy at heart and wasn’t afraid to follow his dream. Initially, he worked at Ford and GM assembly plants welding oil storage tanks and then owned a service station in Grottoes that is still in use today. Jim found his true calling building homes which brought him to Alaska, which he referred to as “the land of milk and honey.” He survived the 1964 earthquake by hanging on to a telephone pole. He built homes in Alaska, Hawaii, Virginia, and Florida, before finally moving back to Grottoes.
Jim is survived by his two sons and their wives, Larry E. and Brenna Marshall of Anchorage Alaska and Jeffrey R. and Michele Marshall of Rigby, Idaho; grandchildren, Matthew Marshall, Savanna Marshall, and Allie (Marshall) Reece; two great grandchildren, Mia and Asher; and caregiver, cousin and “bestest” friend, Norma Jean Morris, who loved him dearly. Larry’s stepsons, Ryan, Kristopher, and Alexander Lowe, along with their sister, Savanna Marshall, loved him and enjoyed watching Walker Texas Ranger with him. There are also many more nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jimmie was preceded in death by seven sisters, Yvonne Shock, Geraldine Ralls, Inez Diehl, Gladys Via, Arbutus Morris, Lillian Lowman, Genevieve Marshall; five brothers, Sylvester, Delmar, Ivan, Jackie, and Eldridge; and stepfather, Joe Lawson.
Pastor William Strickler will be officiating at a graveside burial on March 16, 2019, at 1:00 PM at Edgewood Cemetery with military rites provided by Dayton American Legion Post #27. A memorial service and a celebration of life will follow at Mount Horeb Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, Jim would prefer donations be made to Laurel Hill Full Gospel Church, c/o Pastor William Strickler, 53 Adams Lane, Verona, VA 24482.
Online condolences to the family may be shared at www.johnsonsfs.com.
Jimmie bids farewell and have a “Jesus filled day.”
