Obituary for Louis Mason Spicer, III

Louis Mason Spicer, III was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, March 22, 1947, the son of L. Mason Spicer, Jr., and Lindsay White Spicer. He grew up in Piney River and Lovingston, Nelson County, Virginia and graduated from Nelson County High School, Lovingston, Virginia, where he lettered in track and played percussion in the band. He attended Eastern Mennonite College and graduated from Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, Virginia, with a degree in Spanish. He died May 23, 2018, at Willow Estates Retirement home, Penn Laird, Virginia.

He was employed by Stanley Furniture and later by the Rockingham County Public Schools. He enjoyed HO scale model railroading, a hobby he learned from his father. But the love of his life was hotrods and his 1932 Ford coupe was his pride and joy. He showed it at many shows and modified it in his garage. A member of the Dayton Hood Lifters, he helped his brother-in-law sell used parts at the auto shows he so loved to attend. A member of the Dayton United Methodist Church, he sang in the adult choir, a pass time he enjoyed from his early years.

He is survived by his sons, Patrick (Denise) of Roanoke, Virginia, Corey (Liz) of Silverthorne, Colorado, Caleb (Laura) of Dayton and four grandchildren, Rowan, Mason, Quinn, and Carter. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Goodloe (Bryant) of Suffolk, Virginia, and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Dayton United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. His remains have been cremated.
